Is Skype cheap?

In general from the research I have done they are slightly more expensive that the general SIP providers.

Is what Skype offers that much better that we don't mind paying slightly more for it.

Skype has many benefits over SIP services, to name but a few:
1: you can log onto Skype from anywhere and it remembers your addresses.
2: instant messenger and file transfer.

Skype downside:
1: not as robust as sip platform
2: with most Skype phones/ headsets you need to leave your computer on 24/7 to receive calls
